Contradictory or Complimentary?

Right now in the Higher Power Health Studio, we’re exploring January’s theme of Grounded Fluidity.

Sounds made up (maybe because I made it up😆).

And those concepts sound contradictory - solid/liquid.

But - as we’re discovering, they’re actually complimentary.  One makes the other possible and vice-versa.

Last week we discussed how we want our vital life force energy to freely flow through our beings. (In yoga, we call this prana.)  Just like a flowing river or stream, we want to effortlessly flow through the obstacles of life. We want to be flexible, have the ability to redirect when necessary, and serve our purpose with ease.

This week in the studio, we’re going to explore why we need the sturdy banks (the boundaries and framework) in our lives to keep that flow going. They’re essential to the process, providing direction to the flow.

Now, my push-back against New Year’s Resolutions remains. Creating or bolstering our ‘river banks’ doesn’t have to include rigid, high-energy, contrived willpower.  It’s more about support and honest awareness. It’s about discovering where and how we can create meaningful change that feels authentic to our true needs AND desires.  All while honoring our unique personality, learning styles, and values.  I.e., not building boundaries according to the social constructs and standards that are likely not our natural priorities.

So take a moment…what boundaries would actually enhance your day-to-day life by allowing for more of a flow? Does it come in the form of fresh routines, removing or adding something to your life? Maybe it’s creating strength and resilience in your physical body. Perhaps also in your mind and spirit. Maybe a tweak in your budget would be helpful. Or, maybe you’re simply drawing a blank!  Which - hey! That might indicate that life is gooood - so keep on keeping on! Or it might mean that developing your self-awareness to better access your needs and desires is the place to start.

Regardless, my suggestion is to spend some time in reflection, be patient, and allow what naturally comes forward. Then let the creative juices flow.  How can you bring all of that forward in a way that feels right and doable to you?  I’m going to carve out some time to reflect on just that in yoga class this week, but it’s great for you to be mulling it over until then.

Now, as promised - here’s what’s coming forward for me right now. For a good while (weeks, maybe even months), I’ve been reflecting on what could bring meaningful shifts in my life. If you’ve been around me the past few months, I’m sure you’ve heard how I’ve been struggling with the many symptoms of menopause. Yeah, I’ll admit it - I’ve been a whining mess to anyone that would listen!  In all honesty - it’s knocked me down. Hard. And I’m working through my options for support - whether hormone replacement, supplements, etc. But a little voice keeps whispering to me that quality sleep is a big part of this.  I’ve never had trouble sleeping before, so developing a routine around it just didn’t occur to me.  But now that a good night’s sleep is a distant memory, I’m realizing that my night-owl tendencies need to be put to rest.  Haha, pun intended.😁

And…I’m considering forming a little support group for anyone that wants to join me in improving their sleep.  Let me know if that’s something that interests you.  Not a militant, hard-lined approach.  Just an encouraging and supportive way to gently hold each other accountable and share ideas and experiences. Let me know!

I’d love to have you in yoga class where we process and integrate all of this and more.

Wednesdays at 10:00am or 5:30pm.
